VIDEO: Northsider Details Police Abuse

Posted on 23 June 2007 by Antonio D. French

While on leave from serving in Iraq, Army Specialist Anthony Collins says he was harassed and maced by a St. Louis police officer near his home in north St. Louis.

This video was produced and distributed by the ACLU of Eastern Missouri this week at its press conference on its new “Project Vigilant” initiative, which is arming residents of the Fairground Park neighborhood with video cameras to protect themselves from abusive cops.

EDITOR’S NOTE: WATCH THE LAST 40 SECONDS OF THIS VIDEO. IT APPEARS THAT THE TWO OFFICERS COME BACK TO INTIMIDATE (OR WORSE) THE VICTIM.

I love this!! I salute the ACLU and this initiative 100%.

This video shows how the police harass and abuse citizens – particularly those in north St. Louis – a lot of times for no legitimate reason.

I just hope all of the citizens with cameras are careful and use the cameras to elevate awareness of police brutality, intimidation and harassment.

  2. Anonymous Says:

People with the ACLU can film whatever they want, because nothing is going to happen to most police officers. Some police officers will keep beating the crap out of citizens, and getting probation.

The police are not the problem, the dirty local elected officials, state elected officials, and federal elected officials are the problem.

Why not use the video camera’s to videotape the dirty people in government that get paid under the table to allow wrongdoing to go on?

Parts of St. Louis has high crime and looks shittty so that the government officials pockets can get fatter and fatter.

If it hops like a frog, ribbets like a frog, and eats flies, then it is not a rabbit.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way. As a white male who works in the Fairgrounds Park neighborhood(teacher) for the last 7 years.

After watching the last 40 seconds I thought, “Thank God it wasn’t the white cop.”
