   I’m glad to seee Rex cutting a check and not buying politcians. Buying influence in the State House serves no purpose. The state of Mo. is not fully funding public schools as we speak. So how can it fund public schools and charter schools?

   Good for him. The crisis in education in the City reminds me a lot of the energy crisis. Sure we need to fix it, but we can’t sacrifice the present iwhile we do it. My family currently pays for two young, black children to attend private schools. One in high school and one in grade school. We don’t do it via a foundation, rather we work with two churches who identify kids who (as the mother said) are not reaching their potential in the public schools. We need to fix the public schools and not just in the City. The answer is not just throwing more money at the problem. The problem is systemic. I can’t think of a better investment in the future than helping kids who want to succeed to achieve their goals. I urge anyone who has the means to look into it.

   Looks like Rex’s PR folks are in full effect on this. This foundation is just a tax shelter to protect his billions from being subject to taxes to fund things like public education.

   Finaly, someone is doing something for the kids who are currently enrolled in st. Louis Public Schools! It seems there is no quick fix to the City’s public school situation. This program offers some hope to those who could not otherwise affoard a way out.

   Goood for Rex and I may just donate some money as well.

   I’m only jumping in here because Cleo’s post is so utterly and completely factually inaccurate. Public education is funded almost entirely through property taxes. This foundation and its donations have no effect in any way, shape, or form on the property taxes Rex, or anyone else, pay toward their local school districts in the form of their real estate or personal property taxes. There are no write-offs or deductions for property taxes in Missouri. Now that we have that straightened out…
