As many as 20,000 black men answered the “Call to Oneness” on Sunday. The crowd filled the street and stretched for a mile as the procession of men marched through the streets of north St. Louis calling for an end to the violence that has plagued the area.
Aldermanic President Lewis Reed, 4th Ward Alderman Sam Moore, and State Rep. Rodney Hubbard led the crowd from the Old Sears Building on North Kingshighway down Page Blvd, winding through streets to Tandy Park in the 4th Ward.
Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder joined Reed, Moore, and Hubbard at the front of the procession.
Groups of women cheered the men on along the march route.
Attorney General candidate Margaret Donnelly was among the candidates that attended the historic event.
Now we take it to the next level

We need strong leaders who will not be tempted by monetory offers for their own personal gratification. I’ve seen this happen too many times before that our intiatives become pipe dreams and the community suffers. We in the community support our leaders now it is time for our leaders to support us.
Our school system has not failed us we have failed the school system by not getting involved and allowing others to decide what our children should learn. When you leave the fait of what should happen to our young to others you get just what is going on now – Take over by the state. This allows the state to have more say so about our children then us. I would like to see our community active on a consistant basis with the school system. A city is only as great as their schools. So what does that say about us? ” If you build it they will come.” Get involved!

Jun, 2008, 5:04 PMI was and still am behind this movement but there have been killings overnight and the plan was that these men were to go the scene of the crime asap, and I haven’t seen that happen (with the exception of the killing that happened of the young girl the night of the march).
