Community creates a “Safe Zone” for Children to Trick-or-Treat on Halloween
October 31, 2008
Contact: Antonio French – (314) 779-9958
Four blocks of the O’Fallon Park neighborhood have been deemed a “safe zone” for children to trick-or-treat on this Halloween night.
Twenty-First Ward Committeeman Antonio French has worked with block units, neighborhood activists, police officials, and other elected officials to create a safe and fun environment tonight for kids to experience their neighborhood the way it was meant to be — free from gun fire, and filled with positive activity and cheer.
“Trick-or-treating is an activity that not only brings joy to children, but allows neighbors to meet neighbors,” said French. “When neighbors are no longer strangers, everyone feels more invested in the neighborhood.”
In addition to the trick-or-treating, tonight’s event will also feature an outdoor movie presented by Frontyard Features. Candy has been supplied to participating homes by the 21st Ward Democrats. Police officers will be on patrol in the safe zone all evening.
Special thanks to Alderwoman Bennice Jones-King, State Rep. Jamilah Nasheed, and License Collector Mike McMillan.

Young St. Louisians will take to the streets next Tuesday as the “Obama Strikeforce”, the official get out the vote vehicle of the Young Democrats of Greater St. Louis. Armed with accoutrements of modern communication, like Twitter-enabled cell phones and digital cameras, the Strikeforce will broadcast their Election Day findings to YouTube.com, Twitter.com and Flickr.com.
The Young Dems are looking for field reporters to drive to all polling locations in St. Louis and report what they find there—be it long lines, free doughnuts, or acts of voter fraud or suppression. Martin Casas, president of the Young Democrats of Greater St. Louis said that the live updates and posts to www.obamastrikeforce.com are going to “chronicle what is going on in St. Louis during one of the most important elections in U.S. history. But it is also going to serve as a portal to put out fires and see what is really happening out in the field on Election Day with no filter whatsoever.”
Any users of the popular microblogging Web site Twitter.com can text or “tweet” updates to 314.437.9347 and those reports will be posted to the official Strikeforce Twitter account.
Anyone interested in being a field reporter on Election Day can e-mail info@obamastrikeforce.com for more information, or call 314.437.9347.

What a sharp contrast to 2004 when John Kerry pulled out of Missouri four weeks before Election Day. It was just a little more than a week ago that 100,000 people greeted Obama in downtown St. Louis. Today he was in Columbia. And now word comes that he and his wife will be back in MO on Saturday. Do you feel the love, Missourians? Continue Reading
