Posted on 23 October 2008 by Antonio D. French

A recent New York Times/CBS poll found that for the first time, white voters are evenly divided between John McCain and Barack Obama, and Obama is faring better than his party’s recent candidates among that demographic.

Among Total Whites:
John McCain – 46% (last week: 54%)
Barack Obama – 45% (last week: 39%)

The last Democrat to win a majority of white voters was Lyndon B. Johnson.
