The problem, at least in the city, is that people who are serious about getting elected call themselves Democrats whether or not they truly believe and act as such. I have no doubt that if Slay lived outside the city he would be a Republican, and there are many others in the city I feel the same way about. There can't be party unity when party leadership doesn't make clear what the party stands for and what they require to call yourself a member of that party. Until they get that straightened out, they will flounder. It's the same malaise the GOP is struggling with overall--we just see it in miniature here in the city.

We took surprising and disappointing losses in both our Senate and House races across the state. This should have been a post about the new Democratic leadership of the House, at least, but Tuesday did not go that way. With Democrats taking the White House, the Governor's Mansion and most of the other top state-wide spots, we need to get our act together with respect to ticket unity and centralization/sharing of resources.
